A splash at Charles City’s county fair

Charles City High School’s JROTC instructor Steward Greene takes a dip in the dunking booth as part of the many attractions available at Charles City’s County Fair on Sept. 9. Approximately 200 people made their way to the county high school for food, fun, and a plethora of rides.

Judy Ledbetter earned 26 blue ribbons and was recognized as the top adult winner with a total of 39 ribbons at Charles City’s County Fair on Sept. 8-10. David Ledbetter and Tina Whitehead tied for second place, garnering 16 blue ribbons apiece, while Oliver Whitehead earned 12 blue ribbons for third place. Judy Ledbetter also earned 19 additional blue ribbons as she teamed with Louise Hudgins. Joy Starkey’s Coconut Layer Cake was named best in Charles City, while Phil Hayes won the “Egg Ole’” specialty category.

In the youth division, Cornelia Erda and Henry Erda tied for top honors with one blue and one red ribbon apiece. Shirley Massey finished in second with one blue ribbon.
