New Kent County Parks and Recreation Director Kim Turner is the recipient of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society’s (VRPS) Distinguished Service Award. The ward is presented and judged by a jury of peers who work in the parks and recreation field.

Turner received the recognition for her work and contributions to the community. Peers offered her high praise, mentioning her collaboration with school systems, local churches, and senior adult groups.

“Receiving the VRPS Distinguished Service Award is representative of individual leadership, professional pride, and a passion for the parks and recreation field,” Turner said in a press release. “This service is supported by the parks and recreation team, local New Kent leaders, and colleagues throughout the state.

“It would be remiss of me if I did not mention the supports of parks and recreation assistant director Jason Baldwin and my awesome family,” Turner concluded.

Turner has served as the past chair for the VRPS Central Service area and is on this year’s Board of Directors.
