Book collection donated to Heritage Public Library

Heritage Public Library received a donation of a historical book collection from the Board of Directors of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Alumni Association Inc. (VTCCA).

Colonel Jess Fowler, who retired from the U.S. Army and lives in New Kent, presented Heritage Public Library Director Chandra McPherson during a Dec. 5 presentation at the New Kent branch.
Fowler, who is a member of the VTCCA board, presented a complete six volume set of “The Bugle’s Echo” by Col. Harry D. Temple. The volume describes military life at Virginia Tech from 1872-1934. Temple served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War and attended Virginia Tech from 1930 to 1934.

The donation was made to provide a detailed historical record of military life at Virginia Tech and provide insight to others who have an interest in the school’s Corp of Cadets. The books are available to be read at New Kent’s branch of Heritage Public Library.
