Lifesaver awards

Mr. Mayes (third from right) is surrounded by a plethora of rescuers who saved his life last fall. At Mayes left is Nancy Ross, an untrained bystander who performed CPR until personnel arrived. Mayes regained his pulse approximately 24 minutes later through assistance by New Kent Fire and Rescue (Richard Talley, Chip Amen, R. Dean Lewis, Chris Carroll, and W. Cody VanLeliveld), Sentara Williamsburg’s emergency department, and Life Evac 3 Crew from West Point (Shannon Beam and Bob Brown). Each person who assisted with saving Mayes' life was presented a Lifesaver Award from the American Heart Association.
