New Kent students at CBGS win science competition

New Kent and Chesapeake Bay Governor School students Harrison Hunt (second from left) and Michael Snead (far right) received awards at the 77th annual Virginia Junior Academy of Science Symposium at Longwood University. Hunt won first place in the physics and astronomy category with his presentation “A Study of M and X-Class Solar Flares as a Function of the Solar Cycle” and accompanied that win with a special award for best paper in physics overall. Snead won first in the zoology category with the topic “Observing Species Overlap in the Highly Endemic Peaks of Otter vs. Wide Ranging Red Backed Salamander Population” and accompanied that with a special award from the Virginia Association of Biology Educators for best paper in zoology.
