Editorial: Focus on the future as you prepare to go back to school

By Robb Johnson | August 15, 2018 10:12 am

As school approaches I have a message for all returning students who are young adults (meaning middle school and up).

This year, do not worry about impressing people. Do not worry about trying to stand out or be popular.

What needs to be understood is that before you know it, you will be 18 years old and an adult. Being an adult seems fun when your a teenager. The reality is it’s a big time responsibility. We live in a world with billions of people. The world stops for no one.

Your focus this school year needs to be on you and your real friends. Real friends do not care about getting you into trouble. Real friends take studying serious. Real friends take education serious.

The world is changing. Once you are 12 or 13 years old, you need to start realizing that childhood is over.

I’m not saying you need to act like an adult, but your maturity towards money, business, and making you life better needs to start.

Start saving money. Start thinking about retirement now. Start thinking about business ideas so that you don’t have to work for anybody.

Start thinking about your future now. Don’t be on social media twenty years later regretting what you didn’t do.
