Editorial: Even in a changing world, take time for yourself when making an impact

As I write this, there is only one thing that is on my mind right now: Vacation.

After two years of essentially what is nonstop writing, news coverage, photography taking, editing, and deliveries, it is time for me to take a well-deserved break. (Don’t worry, the Chronicle will still be open and delivered).

When the Chronicle elected to become a weekly paper a few years ago, we knew that there would be sacrifices made. I want to thank the staff at the paper because the adjustment has been one that we all knew would be something that we had to be ready for. In retrospect though, it showed that just like anything else, changes take place. Even today, we still have people believing that we are a bi-weekly newspaper and people still emailing us at our old addresses.

Becoming a creature of habit does have its positives and negatives. The big focus is to do what it takes to break that cycle and a vacation (or even a staycation) can be that break. The biggest factors that we forget to take away from life is that we need to enjoy it. It’s not all about working every day, but it’s about being balanced in life.

My philosophy is that despite how much money or what type of job you do, the biggest impact that you should desire is how have you affected someone else’s life. You can do so many things with money, but that is a temporary solution. A smile, giving advice, or going out the way to help someone has a more powerful meaning.

While the younger generation isn’t watching as much as they use to due to technology, they are still watching. The transitions of living day-to-day are some of the strongest connections a person can form. In order to have those transitions, a person must adjust and accept that while change is inevitable, impact and unity is what is going to push us to be better for each other.

With that said, remember to take time for yourself despite the changing world. Remember that your impact will be felt a lot longer after you transition into the next lifetime.
