Editorial: Colonial Downs is a step to growth in Virginia and New Kent County
We are getting close people.
Nearly five years in the making, Colonial Downs will be back in action with live racing starting Aug. 8. With the sights and sounds of horse-racing running wild back in the great state of Virginia and New Kent County, things continue to grow and prove that with the right leadership, economic development is possible.
Rosie’s Gaming Emporium has given joy to many people as we now have a gambling facility where people can go and have some real fun (along with the opportunity to make some money of course). When the facility closed in November 2014, it looked like the bright lights would never come on again. However, for many race fans, the memories of great times with family and friends on a hot summer night as they watched horses come across the finish line should have you pumped about the return of horse racing.
The new Colonial Downs has the making of something special. Folks will be shocked by the greatness that the new owners have been committed to, such as making the building better. You will be entertained, and you will have the time of your life. I can’t say it any other way.
On Aug. 8, I suggest you come out and experience what is sure to be a game changer for Virginia and New Kent. It’s time for Act II, and I believe that it will not disappoint. “Virginia is for Lovers”, but it’s also for growth, opportunity, and prosperity. Let’s change the game and make Colonial Downs a huge success.
