Letter to the Editor: Says Route 155 detour will be difficult for drivers
Since the initial announcement many months ago, we have been waiting and dreading for the confirmed closing for Route 155 (Courthouse Road) which is a main thoroughfare for most of us in Charles City County for groceries, drug stores, post office, and banking. We were hoping that it would either occur earlier this Summer or next Spring because the Fall and early Winter. Driving is treacherous not only because of possible bad weather and slick roads, but also because of the time change and darkness. Those of us who are not familiar with the winding crooked Route 602 (Lott Cary Road) will be especially nervous.
I suggest that those that will be using the detour should check it out early before traffic and darkness begins. There has been an inordinate number of very large trucks that have been on Route 155 lately. I am assuming that we will be battling for road space with those trucks as well on Route 602 and Route 618 (Adkins Road).
The large truck traffic will be not only an inconvenience, but a hardship since Charles City has no grocery stores for its citizens.
