Editorial: Knowing your self-worth as an individual

By Andre Jones | December 4, 2019 3:15 am

It’s an important factor that you should know your self-worth, especially in today’s time.

The role you play in society is important as what you do will have an impact on others. But the one thing you must do as a person who lives day-by-day is have a self-appreciation of who you are.

This editorial came about as a series of thoughts and observations that I have had in the past few weeks. As we continue to move on with our lives, we all strive to do the best things we can. We want affect lives positively. But unfortunately, there are those few who attempt to bring us down into a realm of negativity. Those are the people who look for the mistakes you make instead of the successes you have along the way. Those are the people who are quick to be judgmental after only hearing one side of the story. At the same time, you shouldn’t worry about those people.

The contributions you make are significant, no matter how small they are. There are several proverbs that assist with the mindset of self-worth. One can look at it as if you’re a gear to a clock, where even the smallest one is needed to help the hands move. Another relative saying puts the focus on you as a person. Why worry about others and what they say when you know you’re doing the right thing and being successful at it? That’s jealousy and envy, not support.

If you ever have doubts of who you are and what you do, know that you are blessed as a person. You have a lot of extraordinary gifts that people do not have. Your talents aren’t anybody else’s; they are your own. You have the ability and will make a difference because while others may not understand, you do. Your ideals are valued and while others may not agree, they will be respected. Respecting yourself and knowing your self-worth is the difference between being an impact or being an implosion.
