CCPS selected as locality for electric school bus program

Charles City Public Schools has been selected as one of the initial localities to implement the use of electric school buses.

Dominion Energy will place 50 electric buses in 16 different localities as part of its phase one operations. The buses will be constructed by Thomas Built Buses and expected to be on area roads by the end of 2020.

According to a press release, the electric school buses will serve as a grid resource by creating additional energy storage technology to support the company’s integration of distributed renewables such as solar and wind power. The buses also provide environmental and health benefits through reduced emissions and reduce operation and maintenance costs for schools up to 60 percent.

Dominion hopes to have 1,000 electric buses on the road by 2025.
