SCC approves battery storage project for New Kent

The State Corporation Commission (SCC) has approved four battery storage pilot projects proposed by Dominion Energy Virginia, including one in New Kent.

The projects will provide additional energy storage technology to support the company’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon and methane emissions by 2050, and also increase renewables to improve grid reliability.

New Kent County will be the home of the two-megawatt battery substation that will serve a 20-megawatt solar facility. It will demonstrate how batteries can help manage voltage and loading issues caused by reverse energy flow, to maintain stable power delivery to customers.
