Editorial: Following through on your resolutions for 2021
This is a new year and that means everyone needs to bring a few things to make it feel that way.
The first thing everyone needs to do is make sure that they have a resolution and take it seriously. We make these resolutions and many people never follow through with them. Following through not only shows inner discipline, but it also shows that we as individuals can continue to grow through not only our goals, but our professional lives as well.
Many times, we can make it through a week or two of our resolutions. Afterwards, we tend to get lazy. We must manage goals, write them down, get a vision board, or record on our phones so that we can listen to these goals every morning to motivate us.
The second thing to do is not tell everyone about your goals. In this made of social media, we are too quick to tell everyone what we are doing rather than just doing it. The process should always move in silence. The beginning days of your goals are the hardest and provides doubters the fuel they need to shut down what you are trying to accomplish. When you do anything, you have to show that progress is made. It honestly makes you look bad in the end and shows people that you have a poor work ethic if you say something and do not believe in it yourself.
Finally, make sure that your resolution is personal. Don’t do a resolution because of what you saw on social media or what is trending. Your goal should be there to make you happy. Make sure they are realistic and that you can accomplish them. Not only will this make you feel good, but it will show you that there is nothing that you can accomplish when you put fear aside and go whatever you want to accomplish in life.
