Editorial: Enjoying the support of New Kent fans at sporting events
I want to recognize the New Kent community for always supporting their sports programs, no matter what.
I have been covering sports for the Chronicle for the last four years. The diversity in sports can be attributed to New Kent, not just basketball and football. You have tennis, golf, baseball, softball, field hockey, soccer, volleyball, and wrestling. In some sports, New Kent has been dominant, and in some others, they are improving. I have had the pleasure to cover these sports and the utter passion that these people have for them and the athletes participating in them.
It was especially pleasing to see the county support their women’s sports, especially with the high school’s softball team over the past few weeks. They have essentially had packed houses during their run to the state finals. The electricity that I feel when covering these events cannot be duplicated. It is an amazing atmosphere.
The passion the fans have make it worth it to show up to work and cover any sport at any time. The love of sports is one of the reasons why I do what I do. It is also rewarding when you have people support these young men and women on a weekly basis, no matter the result or outcome.
Sports is important and it brings communities together. I do not need to look up statistics to prove that this is a fact. Hopefully, I can continue to serve to provide you coverage for many years to come because there is nothing quite like what I do, and it is beyond fun.
So, to the fans and community, thank you all for making my job just that much more enjoyable by bringing the ultimate passion to sporting events.
