Rising New Kent High School junior Larochelle joins New Kent-Charles City Chronicle as Summer intern
Erica Larochelle, a rising junior at New Kent High School, will join the staff of the New Kent-Charles City Chronicle as a summer intern.
Larochelle is a member of the cheerleading squad, YADAPP, and the school’s choir. She credits her family for getting her interested in journalism.
“My mother majored in English and my godmother is an English professor,” Larochelle said in a Sunday afternoon interview. “Right now, I am taking advanced English courses and I plan to major in journalism and/or the English field once I am in college.”
Chronicle Editor Andre’ Jones commented on the addition of Larochelle.
“As one of our longstanding beliefs to always give back to the community in anyway possible, you can tell that Erica was passionate to be part of the journalism field,” Jones said in a press release. “Similar to our past interns, we want to open doors for her, no matter what area she chooses to partake in with her future endeavors. The Chronicle staff will do whatever it takes to ensure that we provide her opportunities to display her writing and storytelling talents through our exposure.”
Larochelle’s assignments will be focused on community interest stories, social impact stories, and school stories to garner interest in the younger reader demographic.
