Editorial: We should take time to spend it with our families today

By Robb Johnson | October 2, 2021 11:41 pm

We should all take time to spend with our families and do it with no apologies.

The last year should have taught us all that spending time with family is essential. We have deal with so many issues during this time. One word that should always be at the forefront from now on is togetherness.

The word togetherness means unity. It means bringing together different generations and giving perspectives on life. Sadly, the last year-plus has resulted in us having to deal with many good people passing away because of the virus and other health problems. It’s even different as we are unable to have proper funerals. Gatherings have also been restricted as well.

Families had to adjust to the sad, short-term reality of less gatherings and more zoom calls. People are still paranoid today about catching the virus, whether they are vaccinated or not, especially with different variants arising.

The pandemic is still ongoing. However, unlike this time last year, it is closer to its end. This experience should show everyone just how valuable time is together. It should teach people that when you are in the presence of each other, phones should be put down, less photos should be taken, and attention should be on each other.

When I was growing up with my uncles, they would tell the best stories and I would just sit there and list. It gave me a perspective of what togetherness meant. It gave me a comfort that no matter what happens, family it what will always matter.

I understand we live in a day and time where families aren’t as close, but this needs to be said. The good Lord above sometimes must remove people so that we can start to realize that silly beefs and small grudges mean nothing. When you have to send someone off to meet their maker, you wish you could have mended fences with them before their passing.

Nothing lasts forever, but memories can if we continue to make them with the people that we truly love and care for.
