Editorial: Make new memories, support those holding onto them during the holidays

As we head into the holiday season, I implore each of you all to do two things; make new memories and support those who are holding onto memories.

The holiday season is a tough one for those who have lost ones, me included. As we sit around at tables celebrating those who are with us, we must also keep those who are going through this season without a loved one. It doesn’t matter if it’s the first time or the thirtieth time, they need love and support. These people are holding onto memories of their loved ones, and we should encourage them to do so. There are good times and bad times with memories, but they are important, nevertheless. Love is universal and comes in many shapes and forms, but unconditional and agape love around this time of year is essential to make sure we do not forget those who have moved on.

As we support those who have lost a loved one, make sure we create new memories for others to cherish. Take advantage of the technology that is available to us. Take a picture or two with someone you love because you never know when you will see them again. I started taking pictures with all of my friends a few years ago, but I stopped because I became complacent. But I need to start that up again because the connection of family and friends is strong. It takes a lot to call a person a friend, let alone a family member as well. Use the holidays as a springboard to reach out to others and make those connections, those memories, and those moments that will live on beyond our existence on this earth.

Continue to celebrate, continue to love, and continue to cherish those who mean the most to you. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
