Editorial: Don’t take away Christmas for those who work hard to have one
Christmas has always had the same song and dance since I was a child.
The issue at hand is that people are going around stealing around this time of year because it is the “holiday.” Well, that’s the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
The bottom line is most of you are making excuses because for 11 months out of the year, you could not get the job done. I am not talking to the struggling people who do the right thing or are going through health issues.
There are people who claim they steal for their kids and that “it’s so hard” or “we just want to have a good Christmas.” Well, I have a newsflash: Most older people I knew grew up with nothing and got the bare minimum. And they were happy with what they got at Christmas.
Our society has turned into excuse-making and using sympathy for outrageous behavior. Christmas is more than gifts. It’s about family, it’s about the day Christ was born, and it’s about celebrating life.
We really have people stealing and robbing each other not for kids and not for gifts. They do it for evil purposes and because they want to do it. There are plenty of jobs out here. If you really want to buy gifts, you have the ability to do so by working and getting a job.
Please stop making excuses and taking from others who have worked hard. You did nothing to earn what that other person has. You did not put in the work. You did not put in the hours. Stop with the dramatics. If you can’t afford it, that is fine. Christmas is one day, but it’s so much more than the sad commercial state that is has become. I understand we all get desperate, but is sitting in a jail cell for years to come worth it because you robbed someone or worse?
Think about your future before you do such a thing. Get your life together and make a plan so that one day you can buy what you want. Be accountable and make life worth it. We have people that truly sacrifice for their families and my heart goes out to them. They barely make ends meet and they do all they can to provide a decent Christmas Day experience.
We have to do better America. We need to stop the foolishness. We live in the land of opportunity. The country is not perfect, but we all have the chance to make something happen.
On Christmas Day, I want everyone to take one minute and say a prayer for our country and the future of it. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Love to all.
