Letter to the Editor: Knowing the truth and what revelations it brings

By Community Member | April 5, 2022 12:09 pm

How many of you want to know the pure, unvarnished truth? If it is constructive, positive, and beneficial, most of you do.

I personally seek to know and tell the honest truth about everything I think and say, but not say it now if it will needlessly or frivolously hurt someone. This latter discretion must come from tactful consideration of any message you convey to others. Some expressions of truth are gentle. Others are harsh.

A form of lying occurs when you keep hiding irksome reality. Others get a false sense of optimism, sweeping the ugly stuff under the rug, which can cause one to pretend everything is rosy. A child has a happy and carefree upbringing but grows up naïve to what life is all about, being deprived of knowing what happens in the real world. A fairy tale outlook toward the way things are thwarts progress to mental maturity.

Burying your feelings and what you know may erect a virtual wall between you and others. Qualms at revealing faults in items for sale, past actions, or your character can result in dishonest dealings with people.

Much more can be said about the truth. My final question is this: Is there more truth than its opposite in the world today?
