Benjamin Harrison Bridge closing overnight from Sept. 18-23
The Benjamin Harrison Bridge, that connects Charles City and Prince George County, will close nightly to vehicle traffic for bridge washing and repairs for a week beginning on Monday, Sept. 18.
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will have closures starting at 7 p.m. on Sept. 18, with the bridge reopening at 5 a.m. the following morning. Weather permitting, work is expected to be completed by Friday, Sept. 23, 5 a.m.
A detour is in place for motorists during the overnight closures. Those heading to Prince George/Hopewell will be directed westbound on Route 5 (John Tyler Memorial Highway) to Interstate 295 South to Exit 15A (Route 10) and directed eastbound back to Route 106/156. Drivers heading from Prince George/Hopewell to Charles City will be directed westbound on Route 10 to Interstate 295 North to Exit 22A (Route 5) and then redirected eastbound back to Route 106/156. Those traveling to the Hampton Roads area are encouraged to use the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry as alternate routes.
