Charles City food pantry opens doors to community

Charles City Board of Supervisors’ chairman Gilbert Smith (center) cuts the ribbon to signify the ceremonial opening of the Charles City County Food Pantry Wednesday morning. Located in the Ruthville area adjacent to the old high school, the $1.2 million facility was paid for in full through a $500,000 grant from the Department of Housing and Community Development, and contributions from S-Power, Bruce Howard, John Randolph Foundation, Bethany Foundation, and other local benefactors. The facility will begin distributions on Tuesday, Aug. 1. Pictures of the facility can be seen in our photo gallery online at www.nkccnews.com.Andre' Jones photos
