Letter to the Editor: Responds to conspiracy theories involving New Kent County
I want to express my reaction to the self-described political comments in the newsletter by John Poindexter in the latest editions of the Chronicle. This is not criticism because I know Mr. Poindexter is a patriot, preservationist, and a gentleman. We share a common background including Vietnam combat and restoring old homes.
Mr. Poindexter alleges that during a closed-door meeting of New Kent County’s Board of Supervisors that “pro-growth-oriented members coalesced around their choice for a replacement supervisor” for the sadly departed Ms. Patricia Paige. He further presented evidence that the Virginia Attorney General took exception to that process. If the board of supervisors violated the law, shame on them. However, their error could have been a simple mistake rather than a conspiracy.
I spoke with Ms. Paige twice and got the impression that she did not object to controlled growth in New Kent County. Mr. Poindexter admits that Ms. Paige was a “swing vote.” I favor controlled growth. I do not support no growth.
I am weary of driving to Williamsburg, Mechanicsville, White Oak Village, Short Pump, downtown Richmond or Southpark Mall for shopping. I know I have to travel to go to a movie or restaurant because they are not available locally. We have no big box stores, and the only grocery store is Food Lion.
If there is a conspiracy, perhaps that is the result.
