Letter to the Editor: Appalled by behavior from District Two and District Three leaders in Charles City
The behavior displayed during the October Charles City Board of Supervisors’ meeting was deeply troubling and sent a clear message to residents of District One; we do not mater.
Despite having fewer residents and less development pressure, District Two and District Three continue to dominate representation and decision-making across nearly every county commission. It has become apparent that there is a deliberate effort to sideline District One and keep its citizens and its representative uninformed and uninvolved.
During the [Oct. 28] meeting, District One’s representative attempted to appoint two new individuals and reappoint another to important committees, only to be met with obstruction. This blatant disregard for fairness revealed how the chairman (from District Three) and member (from District Two) appear to treat the county as their personal domain, ruling as though they were above accountability/ Such conduct undermines the principles of equal representation that our local government should uphold.
While there is hope that their influence will end with the election of a new board, there remains real concern that the damage caused by the current leadership, particularly from District Three’s representative, will take significant time and effort to repair. District One deserves a fair voice in our county’s future.
