Virginia SAR charters Abraham Brown Chapter for Charles City, New Kent

The Abraham Brown Chapter of the Virginia SAR has been chartered to serve New Kent and Charles City County. Named after Abraham Brown, a free African American farmer and landowner from Charles City, the charter welcomed 24 charter members with the organization’s goal to promote historical education, support youth programs, encourage civic engagement, and preserve stories of men and women who shaped the early history of New Kent and Charles City County. On hand to accept the recognition of the charter is Kevin Brown (left), who is the sixth great-grandson of Abraham Brown.
