Bridge to be named after late Charles City Sheriff
A bridge connecting New Kent and Charles City County will be renamed in honor of a late Charles City Sheriff.
The Route 106 (Roxbury Road) bridge located at the western part of the county will be renamed in recognition of late Charles City Sheriff Javier J. Smith.
A bill was introduced by Delegate Delores McQuinn during the meeting of the Virginia Assembly on Jan. 16. The bill passed unanimously in the House of Delegates and also passed unanimously in the Virginia Senate. On Apr. 13, Governor Abigail Spanberger signed the documentation to make it official.
Co-supporters of the bill from the House of Delegates were Jessica Anderson, Alex Askew, Mike Cherry, Nadarius Clark, Joshua Cole, Rae Cousins, Patrick Hope, Karen Keys-Gamarra, Michelle Lopes Maldonado, Sam Raoul, Charlie Schmidt, Irene Shin, and R. Lee Ware. Additional co-supporters representing the Virginia Senate were from Lashrecse Aird, Lamont Bagby, J.D. Diggs, and Michael Jones.
