Adkins announced as Commonwealth Humanities Awardee
Stephen Adkins, the Chief of the Chickahominy Tribe based in Charles City County, has been announced as a 2026 Commonwealth Humanities Awardee.
The award is given to a person or group who exemplifies humanitarian qualities, beliefs, and values.
“As an exploration of human stories, beliefs, and creativity, the humanities help us create and question our values and how we should leave,” said Virginia Humanities’ executive director Matthew Gibson in a press release. “We established the Commonwealth Humanities Award as a way to recognize the great work that other institutions and individuals are doing to examine those questions, strengthen social connection, and build a more civically engaged society.
Adkins will be honored at an Oct. 15 in Richmond.
