New Kent Junior Woman’s Club offering scholarships

New Kent Junior Woman’s Club will offer two $1,250 scholarships to two graduating seniors of New Kent High School. To be eligible, a New Kent High School senior must reside within the county. Scholarship criteria include community involvement, service, and academic performance. Scholarships are available in New Kent High School’s counseling office and are due back there on May 14.

New Kent Woman’s Club offering scholarship

New Kent’s Woman’s Club is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior. The scholarship will be awarded to a senior girl at New Kent High School who will graduate as a member of the Class of 2021. The scholarship is in the amount of $1,000. Applications are available in the high school’s guidance office and should be returned there by Apr. 16.

Bloodworth named to Georgia Southern University’s President’s List

Dorian Bloodworth, a resident of Providence Forge, has been named to Georgia Southern University’s President’s List for the Fall 2020 semester. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must accumulate a grade point average of 4.0 while taking at least 12 credit hours.

Letter to the Editor: Thanks New Kent County for a well-organized vaccine clinic

I would like to thank New Kent County Administrator Rodney Hathaway for encouraging residents to register at the New Kent Call Center to receive their COVID-19 vaccines. A vaccine clinic was held at New Kent High School on March 6. The event was extremely well organized and I would like to commend the county staff, New Kent Sheriff’s Office, New Kent Fire Department, health organization staff, and volunteers who worked and made this a successful vaccine. Volunteers are needed to assist with the American Red Cross blood drive in New Kent County. “Every day, roughly 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed in the United States,” said American Red Cross representative Charles White. “To continue to meet this critical need, the Capital Charter of the American Red Cross is looking for two friendly, customer focused individuals to volunteer at blood drives in New Kent County.” If interested, White can be contacted at charles.white6@redcross.org.
