Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma Club is offering two scholarship grants to graduating students of New Kent High School. A $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to a New Kent High School Senior pursuing a college education at either a community college or four-year institution. Another $3,000 will be awarded to a New Kent High School senior enrolled in a technical, nursing, or culinary arts field through Bridging Communities Career and Technical Center. New Kent native Grayson Torrence is seeing lots of stars, especially in Hollywood. Torrence’s journey to success has landed her a “Golden Ticket” on the hit reality show “American Idol.” The Golden Ticket allows the New Kent native to participate in Hollywood in front of a live audience with an opportunity to be named as the next “American Idol.” The 21-year old gymnastics instructor sang “Fall in Line” by Christina Aguilera during her audition. Nathan Karaffa, a resident of Quinton, has been named as a Scholar Athlete by the United East Conference for the Fall 2024 semester. Karaffa was one of 63 students recognized for his academic achievements while participating as a member of the Wilson College Phoenix. In order to earn the honor, a student-athlete must have competed in a fall conference-sponsored sport and maintain a grade-point average of 3.2 or higher.
