Editorial: Maintaining a social and mental well-being alongside your physical well-being

With the state of Virginia entering stage three of reopening on July 1, it is essential that we still take precautions physically in order to maintain our physical well-being. Braxton scholarship awarded to recent Charles City graduates

Four recent high school graduates from Charles City were recently awarded the 2020 Shana Braxton Memorial Scholarship. Charles City High School graduates Aysia Wallace, Justis Crawley, and Skye Bradby, as well as Maggie L. Walker Governor School graduate Jordan Hayes, were each the recipient of a $500 scholarship. The scholarships were awarded from monetary donations raised through fundraisers.

Summer ‘Grab and Go’ meals at New Kent High School

New Kent Public Schools will continue to provide ‘Grab and Go’ meals throughout the summer months each Monday for all children age 18 or under. Beginning July 6, pre-packaged meals will be distributed from 9 a.m.-1 p.m at the entry circle in front of New Kent High School. Meals will provide a breakfast and lunch for seven days. Meals will be distributed until the end of August. If you are a parent/child who cannot pick up the meals during the designated time, contact Leslie Smith at 966-8508 or Lsmith@nkcps.k12.va.us.

Editorial: Think for yourself when casting your vote

My thinking of this editorial comes with a simple message; you must stop letting others think for you. The message comes as election season is here. We have an important election coming up this November as President Donald Trump looks to go against the presumptive Democratic candidate Joe Biden. Hathaway addresses New Kent Rotary Club

New Kent High School 2020 graduates will ‘Impact the World’

Four days of graduates; four days of celebrating the accomplishments of New Kent High School’s Class of 2020. Approximately 227 graduates were honored at New Kent High School’s graduation ceremonies that took place from June 8-11 inside of the high school’s auditorium. Despite the conditions of the modified graduation from its traditional home inside of VCU’s Siegel Center, seniors were met inside the library before receiving opportunities for multiple photo opportunities down the hallway leading to the auditorium. New Kent High School Class of 2020 Valedictorian- Alayna Loveland

Alayna Lovelend posted a grade-point average of 4.71 as valedictorian for New Kent High School’s Class of 2020. She was a member of BETA, the National Honor Society, YADAPP, Eternity Club, participated in basketball, and ran cross-country. Alayna will be attending the University of Virginia and is currently undecided in her major. She is the daughter of Tim and Julia Loveland.
