Patrick Henry’s Demand reenactment to take place in New Kent

The 250th anniversary reenactment of Patrick Henry’s Demand to the British will take place in New Kent. The event will commemorate Patrick Henry, who led a volunteer militia on May 2-4, 1775, from Hanover to Williamsburg to demand royal Governor Lord Dunmore the return of gunpowder taken from the powder magazine in the middle of Williamsburg in April 1775. The event will begin on May 2, 7 p.m., with a talk of the Spring of 1775 by Mike Cecere in the New Kent Boardroom. Three Quinton residents named to Dean’s List at Radford University

Three Quinton residents were named to the Dean’s List at Radford University for the Fall 2024 semester. Max Bredehoft, Mark Daniel, and Aiden Melton were all recognized for their academic achievements. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be taking at least 12 credit hours and earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.

Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma is pleased to announce that the organization will sponsor a $200 Youth Service Award to a New Kent student. The award is to recognize a youth in New Kent County that exemplifies leadership and community service. To be eligible, a student must be a resident of New Kent and recognized for outstanding performance in the areas of volunteer community service and school-required service activities. Applications are available at each of the New Kent schools’ guidance offices and must be returned there by Tuesday, Mar. 18, 2025.

Four locals named to Dean’s List at College of William and Mary

Four local students were named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 2024 semester at the College of William and Mary. Emma Shellman of Charles City, Elizabeth Ross of Lanexa, Jackson Henning of New Kent, and Catie Bennett of Providence Forge were recognized for their academic accolades. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be taking at least 12 credit hours and earn a quality point average of 3.6 or better.

GWES recognized as Project ADAM Heart Safe School

George Watkins Elementary School (GWES) has been named as a Project ADAM (Automated Defibrillators in Adam’s Memory) Heart Safe School. GWES is one of 33 schools I Virginia to achieve this designation, which reflects a school’s commitment to preventing sudden cardiac arrest and ensuring staff members are prepared to respond effectively in an emergency. Criteria that must be met to be recognized for the achievement include having 10 staff members certified in advanced CPR, having at least four Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) strategically placed in areas where they are easy accessible, a written cardiac emergency response plan, and annual staff…

Two graduate from University of Maryland Global Campus

Jeremiah Busetto of Providence Forge recently earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
