India Harris is salutatorian of Charles City High School’s Class of 2025 with a grade-point average of 3.6. She is a member of the National Honor Society, served as Battalion Commander for Charles City High School’s JROTC Corp of Cadets, member of the Youth Advisory Board, President of the Senior Class, and student liaison to the Charles City School Board. India has enlisted into the United States Air Force and will also be pursuing a career in health care. She is the daughter of Russell and Sherika Harris.

Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma has announced several award winners as part of their annual scholarship process. New Kent High School senior Delaney Sherman was selected as the $3,000 recipient of the Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma grant. Delaney will be attending Radford University and plans to major in nursing. Five technical scholarships were also awarded to New Kent High School seniors by the organization this year. Gloria Shin received a $3,000 scholarship and will attend Virginia Commonwealth University. Mark Daniel, a resident of Quinton, graduated from Radford University as part of May 10 commencement ceremonies. Daniel graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the university.
Hannah Milby, a resident of New Kent, was named to the Dean’s Honor List at Cedarville University for the Spring 2025 semester. To be recognized for the achievement, a student must take at least 12 credit hours while obtaining a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher.
New Kent Parks and Recreation will once again take part in the Play All Day VA on June 20. Organized by the Virginia Recreation and Park Society, Play All Day VA aims to promoted the importance of playing for all ages, abilities, and interests through local parks and free or discounted recreational programming. Community members are encouraged to participate in opportunities provided by New Kent Parks and Recreation offerings.
