Lauren Gregory, a 2015 graduate of New Kent High School, was named to Virginia Tech’s Dean’s List for the Fall 2018 semester. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must be enrolled as a full-time student and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.
Providence Forge Ruritan Club is now accepting applications for scholarships for the upcoming graduation class of 2019. The organization is offering five $1,000 scholarships. TO be eligible, the student must be a resident of New Kent, and must be classified as a senior in a Virginia public, private, or home school. Financial need, scholarship, participation in extracurricular activities, and community service are considered when scholarships are awarded. Scholarships will be accepted until April 24 and are available in New Kent High School’s guidance office.. The James Lafayette Historical Highway Marker in New Kent and the Lott Cary Birthplace Historical Marker in Charles City were among 35 markers that received a special designation from the 2019 Commemoration of American Evolution. The markers are part of the Virginia History Trails and are being recognized as part of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s 400th anniversary.
Several local students earned accolades and were named to the College of William and Mary’s Dean’s List for the Fall 2018 semester. Paul Morrison of Barhamsville, Mathew Meinhofer of Lanexa, Justin Mitchell of New Kent, and Yvonne Sanchez and Jonah Sweeney, both of Providence Forge, earned the academic recognition from the college. In order to achieve Dean’s List status, a person must be a full-time student taking at least 12 credit hours and accumulate a quality-point average of 3.6 or better.
