New Kent Republican Committee wins award

New Kent County’s Republican Committee was named as the Republican Unit of the year at a luncheon during an annual luncheon hosted by Republican Party of Virginia. The unit was recognized for its efforts in recruitment, activism, and election coordination efforts. On hand to receive the award was New Kent Republican chairman Mark Daniel, and vice-chairs Jerry Benson and Thomas Miller.

While the acronym MVP usually stands for “Most Valuable Player”, I believe a more appropriate usage of those letters should be “Many Volunteering Parents.” Parents (or guardians) are consistent in keeping our youth involved with many activities in Charles City and New Kent County. I can remember my mother taking me to youth baseball practice and at the games, she was the scorebook keeper. New Kent High School theatre production finishes third at state competition

New Kent High School’s theater team earned a third-place finish at the Group 3A State Theatre Festival on Monday, Dec. 3. Students performed a one-act play in front of judges who ranked the group on acting skills, performance, stage presence, scenery, and management. Jake Ferris was selected to the all-state acting performance team while Billy Bowery was an honorable mention selection.
