Kennedy hired as newest reporter for New Kent-Charles City Chronicle

The New Kent-Charles City Chronicle is pleased to announce the hiring of Noah Kennedy as a reporter. Kennedy is a 2023 graduate from Radford University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Media Studies, with a specialty in multimedia journalism. The Mechanicsville resident was a member of the university’s newspaper staff, The Tartan, where he was assigned to sporting events, concerts, and fundraisers. Thrive Virginia hosting Family Fun Day in Charles City on May 30

Thrive Virginia will host its annual Family Fun Day on May 30, 2-6 p.m. at Harrison Park in Charles City County. The event serves as an engagement for families while fostering community connections. Events include free food, a dunking booth, music, face painting, games, and more. The event is free to attend and made possible by community partners. Crites inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society

Breanna Crites, a resident of Lanexa, has been elected to the membership into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Crites was elected into the branch at Virginia Commonwealth University. Membership is by invitation only and requires nominations and approval by a chapter. To be selected, a person must be in the top 10 percent of the senior class, top 7.5 percent of the junior class, or the top 10 percent as a graduate student.

Over the four years that Chairman Byron Adkins has been on the Board of Supervisors, Charles City’s fund balanced has dropped from a healthy $10 million to the point that we had to borrow $5 million this summer to pay our bills. Outside auditors cannot complete the audit of the fiscal year that ended nine months ago because the administration under his leadership has not been able to provide information about transactions that occurred last year.
