‘Hello’ program looks to help senior citizens in Charles City

A unique program to assist the senior living community will take place in Charles City. Charles City County Parks and Recreation will host a community game day for seniors entitled “Hello” will be available on Oct. 22 at the recreation center. The program is one of only 19 within the United States to be chosen by Penn State University’s College of Medicine to take place. New Kent Sheriff’s Office wins VACP award

New Kent Sheriff’s Office is the recipient of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge Award for the small divisions’ category (1-50 members). The office was recognized on Sept. 11 at the 93rd VACP annual training conference. The award signifies that New Kent Sheriff’s Office mission on serving and protecting citizens, reducing injuries, fatalities, and overall numbers of traffic crashes. The office also received a special award for outstanding enforcement and education efforts in the areas of occupant protection.

Chickahominy Tribe hosting 67th annual fall festival

The Chickahominy Indian Tribe will join Native American friends and visitors from all over the country when they gather for the 67th annual Chickahominy Fall Festival and Pow-wow on Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23 at the Chickahominy Tribal Grounds, located at 8200 Lott Cary Road, Providence Forge, VA, in Charles City. Students are returning to school next week. That means this message is for those operating motor vehicles during those time frames; drive safely and carefully. Driving safely should be a precedent for all motorists, but especially during the back-to-school season.
