Fols named new director of Bay Transit
David Fols has been tabbed as the new director of Bay Transit, an agency that serves New Kent and Charles City County. Fols will oversee transportation operations for 10 counties including New Kent and Charles City. Bay Transit provides shuttle and transportation services for $1 with advance notification.
Orange Alternative LLC offering mobile repair services in New Kent
Orange Alternative LLC has announced a mobile equipment repair service that will have operations in New Kent County. Owned by Steve Long and Bobby Kelley, the company primarily works on servicing and repairing Kubota Mowers, Tractors, and RTVs. The company has over 20 years of service with certified and factory trained employees. Hours of the company are 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday to Friday. For more information, call 804-946-2029.
Rudolph recognized for academic achievements at Virginia Tech
Amy Rudolph of New Kent was named to the Dean’s List at Virginia Tech for the Fall 2024 semester. To be recognized for the honor, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.
Ross named to Dean’s List at Milwaukee School of Engineering
Katie Ross, New Kent High School’s Class of 2023 valedictorian, was named to the Milwaukee School of Engineering Dean’s List for the Fall 2024 semester. To earn this recognition, a student must take at least 12 credit hours and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.2 or higher.
Local students recognized for academic honors at James Madison University
Several local students were recognized for their academic accolades as part of honors received from James Madison University for the Fall 2024 semester. Hunter Meadows and Clara Fernandez, both of Lanexa, and Brianna Bartlett and Jacob Snawder, both of Quinton, were named to the President’s List for the semester. J.B. Warlick, a resident of Providence Forge, was named to the President’s List at the University of Alabama for the Fall 2024 semester. To be named to the list, a student must be enrolled full-time and accumulate a grade-point average of 4.0.
Two named to Dean’s List at University of Maryland-Global Campus
Two local students were named to the Dean’s List at the University of Maryland Global Campus for the Fall 2024 semester. Brandon Harcum of New Kent and Tenisha High-Adams of Providence Forge were recognized for their academic excellence. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must complete at least six credits during the term and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better.

Several local residents have completed their studies at James Madison University and graduated as part of December 2024 ceremonies. Miranda Copland of Providence Forge graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Danielle Ellsworth of Quinton graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Arts and Design.
