Five graduate with degrees from Shenandoah University

Five local residents were among more than 1,200 graduates from Shenandoah University as part of Spring 2024 commencement ceremonies. Colette Girouard of Quinton, Brylea Ricks of Providence Forge, and Matthias Rogers all graduated with bachelor’s degrees from the university. Girouard graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in film production, Ricks graduated with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, and Rogers graduated with a Bachelor of Music in church music. Chickahominy Area Triad receives medical alert devices through Alert1 sponsorship

Alert1 Medical Alert Services, a national provider of emergency alert and monitoring services, is now an official sponsor of the Chickahominy Area Triad senior safety program. Community Health Improvement Plan announced for Charles City County

Charles City County’s Steering Committee and the Chickahominy Health District (CHD) have released the 2024-28 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The plan aims to address county priorities that include healthcare access and quality, economic stability, infrastructure, and workplace development, and childhood health and education. Cumberland Hospital recognized for Gluten-Free Food Service program

Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents in New Kent County has been certified as a Gluten-Free Food Service program. The Cumberland Hospital nutrition team met requirements of rigorous standards and expectations that include audits by the Gluten-Free Food Service (GFFS). “I am proud of the hard work by our dietary team to achieve this prestigious certification,” said Garrett Hamilton, Chief Executive Officer of Cumberland Hospital. “Being able to offer Gluten Free options in a dedicated meal preparation area increases our ability to serve our unique patient population.”

Chickahominy Health District recognized for public health emergencies preparedness

The Chickahominy Health District, which serves Charles City and New Kent, has been recognized by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) for its ability to plan, respond, and recover from public health emergencies. The recognition is given to organizations that meet the comprehensive benchmarks required by Project Public Health Ready (PPHR), a unique partnership between NACCHOS and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Reviews of the organization are assessed by the ability to meet national standards for public health preparedness and align with federal government requirements, along with other national best practices.

Townsend recognized for academic success at Fort Hays State University

William Townsend, a resident of Quinton, was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll at Fort Hays State University for the Spring 2024 semester. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must be enrolled full-time and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.6 or higher.

Three local students recognized for academic success at Brightpoint Community College

Three local students were named to either the Dean’s List or Honor’s List at Brightpoint Community College for the Spring 2024 semester. Kayla King of Charles City, Carrie Fitzpatrick of Providence Forge, and Robert Fields of Quinton were recognized for their academic achievements. In order to make the Honor’s List, a student must accumulate a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. To be recognized on the Dean’s List, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.2 or higher.

Narron named to Honor’s List at Mary Baldwin University

Delaney Narron, Charles City High School’s Class of 2021 salutatorian, was named to the Honor’s List at Mary Baldwin University for the Spring 2024 semester. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must be enrolled full-time and accumulate a grade point average of 3.75 or higher.
