The 72nd rendition of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe annual Fall Festival and Pow-Wow is returning to the Charles City County. The Chickahominy Indian Tribe will join Native American friends and visitors from all over the country when they gather for the 71st annual Chickahominy Fall Festival and Pow-Wow on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Chickahominy Tribal Grounds, located at 8200 Lott Cary Road, Providence Forge, VA, in Charles City. New Kent County Airport awarded $13,696 for easement acquisition

The Virginia Aviation Board announced that it will be awarding funds to New Kent County Airport as part of its annual designation to aviation projects. New Kent County’s Airport received $13,696 for easement acquisition and services. The easement acquisition is phase two of a project for the airport’s expansion of the runway. In total, the Virginia Aviation Board awarded $9.58 million to 19 airports across Virginia.

Karaffa named to Dean’s List at Wilson College

Nathan Karaffa, a resident of Quinton, was named to the Dean’s List at Wilson College for the Spring 2024 semester. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must be enrolled full-time and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Letter to the Editor: Speaks about improvements coming to Crawford State Forest

Crawford State Forest is 245 acres on Pocahontas Trail. The forest was donated in 1989 and has suffered from neglect. This Fall, Virginia’s Department of Forestry (VDF) and Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) plans to remove trees at the entrance of the parking lot. These trees severely limit the site line for cars leaving the lot. VDOT and VDF does not want to promote increased traffic at the site until they have done all they can to improve conditions for visitors.
