Martell graduates with law degree from American University

Christopher Martell, a 2021 graduate of New Kent High School, recently completed his studies at American University following Spring 2024 commencement ceremonies. Martell graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Justice and Law and with a minor in Legal Studies.

Temporary traffic light to be installed at New Kent intersection until 2027

A temporary traffic signal will be coming to New Kent County due to the Interstate 64 expansion and will close an exit ramp until 2027. Virginia’s Department of Transportation announced that starting in September 2024, a signal will be placed at the intersection of New Kent Highway (Route 33) and the Interstate 64 westbound exit ramp. The current ramp for will be closed to all traffic for at least two years. The left lane on the two-lane highway on Route 33/249 eastbound will be a left-turn only ramp. A local Charles City County store is now the subject of an investigation after a petroleum leak was discovered. Adkins Store, located at the 9900 block of Lott Cary Road, has been cited for violations by several organizations after two public meetings were held on Tuesday, July 16. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Virginia Department of Health (VDOH), the Chickahominy Health District (CHD), and Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) met with constituents at two different locations to discuss preliminary findings. Five local residents were among more than 1,200 graduates from Shenandoah University as part of Spring 2024 commencement ceremonies. Colette Girouard of Quinton, Brylea Ricks of Providence Forge, and Matthias Rogers all graduated with bachelor’s degrees from the university.
