Letter to the Editor: Updates on the Tidewater and Big Bend Foundation

I’d like to update my neighbors on the Tidewater and Big Bend Foundation’s endeavors. Established in Nov. 2020, our foundation is dedicated to restoring and enhancing historical homes in the Tidewater Virginia area, with a current focus on New Kent County. Unlike typical historical site initiatives, we acquire and develop extensive land areas, echoing the grandeur of pre-Civil War estates. Our financial filings are in the public record, so I have no hesitation in supplying you with a couple of numbers that describe the scope of our operations. Local duo earn academic recognition from Shenandoah University

Two local residents were named to Shenandoah University’s President’s List for the Fall 2023 semester. Colette Girouard of Quinton and Rachel Owens of Lanexa were recognized for their academic achievements. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled in the baccalaureate degree program and earn a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.

Holland named to Dean’s List at Fairmont State University

A New Kent resident was named to the Dean’s List at Farimont State University for the Fall 2023 semester. John Holland was named to the list for his academic excellence. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.

Five local residents named to SNHU President’s List for Fall 2023 semester

Five local residents were named to the President’s List of Southern New Hampshire University for the Fall 2023 semester. Rosana Caballero, Carrol Smart, and Maurice Lambert, all of New Kent, Kyle McCuistion of Providence Forge, and Ronald Pearsall of Quinton, were all recognized for their academic achievement. To be named to the President’s List, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher while taking at least 12 credits.

Vick sisters recognized for academic honors at respective universities

Two sisters who were members of New Kent High School’s Class of 2022 received respective academic honors from their universities for the Fall 2023 semester. Lauren Vick was named to the President’s List at Longwood University. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 4.0 during the semester. Lucy Vick was named to the Dean’s List at Christopher Newport University. To be recognized for the honor, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Chronicle announces holiday hours

The New Kent-Charles City Chronicle is announcing its holiday office hours. The Chronicle will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday. Staff will work remotely on Tuesday, Dec. 26. Deadlines for next week’s issue will be Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 12 p.m. Offices will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, for New Year’s Day. The deadline for the Jan. 4, 2024 edition will be Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, 5 p.m. Staff will return phone calls and respond to emails at their earliest convenience.
