Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma is pleased to announce that the organization will sponsor a $200 Youth Service Award to a New Kent student. The award is to recognize a youth in New Kent County that exemplifies leadership and community service. To be eligible, a student must be a resident of New Kent and recognized for outstanding performance in the areas of volunteer community service and school-required service activities. Applications are available at each of the New Kent schools’ guidance offices and must be returned there by Friday, Mar. 1.
Annabelle Brame, a 2020 graduate of New Kent High School, has been named to the Dean’s List at the University of Delaware for the Fall 2023 semester. In order to be eligible for the accolade, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or above.
Dennis Chartier, founder of Bottoms Bridge Tire and Auto Care, has retired at the age of 78. Stating that “It’s just the right time,” Chartier established the business in 1999. He enjoyed waiting on customers and had many sayings and mottos for the business. He often said “It’s not what Bottoms Bridge Tire and Auto can do for you! It’s what you can do for Bottoms Bridge Tire and Auto.” Chartier said he will miss the friendships, which will be the hardest part of them all. Amy Rudolph, a 2022 graduate of New Kent High School, was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Virginia Tech for the Fall 2023 semester. In order to be recognized for the accomplishment, a student must be enrolled full-time and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.
Kendal Vorous of Quinton was named to the Dean’s List at the College of William and Mary for the Fall 2023 semester. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a quality point average of 3.6 or higher.
Katie Ross, New Kent High School’s Class of 2023 valedictorian, was named to the Dean’s List at the Milwaukee School of Engineering for the Fall 2023 semester. Students must be taking 12 credit hours and earn a grade-point average of 3.2 or higher to be recognized with the academic honor.
Peter Sharpe, a resident of Charles City, completed his studies at the University of Alabama as part of Dec. 2023 commencement ceremonies. Sharpe graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration.
