More temporary traffic lights are coming to New Kent County that will last for an extended period of time. Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced that temporary traffic lights will be begin operations at both intersections of the Interstate 64 and Emmaus Church Road (Route 106) starting next week. Amy Rudolph, a resident of New Kent, has been named to the Dean’s List at Virginia Tech for the Spring 2025 semester. To be recognized for the achievement, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.
With continuous accidents and ongoing speeding in work zones on Interstate 64, New Kent Sheriff’s Office has announced that automated speed enforcement in work zones will begin on July 1. “We’ve measured a dramatic increase in vehicle crashes on the section of Interstate 64 that falls within New Kent County,” said Sheriff Lee Bailey in a press release. “In 2023, there were a total of 240 crashes. Kendal Vorous, a resident of New Kent, has been accepted into the Peace Corps. A graduate from the College of William and Mary with a degree in psychology, Vorous will begin her tenure on July 12 in Costa Rica where she will begin training as a youth development facilitator.

Two local students were named to the Dean’s List at the University of Maryland Global Campus for the Spring 2025 semester. Tenisha High-Adams of Providence Forge and Jennifer Hilton of New Kent were recognized for their academic accolades at the university. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must be taking at least six credits in coursework and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
