National Historic Garden Tour slated to come to New Kent in 2025

The National Historic Garden Tour has set its eyes on New Kent County for 2025. Elizabeth Meyers and Karen Tomlin of the Three Rivers Garden Club of Virginia made the announcement during New Kent’s Board of Supervisors Aug. 14 regular meeting. The Three Rivers Garden Club provides tours of houses and gardens in 45 different states and 12 different countries. According to the representatives, the event garnered 23,000 visitors in 2023, the most successful in the tour’s 90-year history. While no specific dates have been set, the representatives said that the club generates $12.5 million dollars to the Virginia economy….

New Kent County airport awarded funds from Virginia Aviation Board

New Kent County Airport was one of 21 airports to receive funding from the Virginia Aviation Board to complete projects to enhance the facility. New Kent County Airport received $24,000 for sealing runway cracks, applying an additional seal coat, and remarking it as part of the funds. They also received $4,312 as part of Phase One for easement acquisition services and reimbursement. In total, the Virginia Aviation Board awarded $8.4 million to airport projects across the state.

Harcum named to Dean’s List at University of Maryland Global Campus

Brandon Harcum, a resident of New Kent, was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Maryland Global Campus for the Spring 2023 semester. In order to be recognized for the honor, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher while completing at least six credits.

Chronicle staff to interview candidates in upcoming Fall elections

The New Kent-Charles City Chronicle will begin conducting interviews with candidates who are running in the Fall 2023 general election. Candidates will be contacted by Chronicle staff via telephone or in-person at public events and engage in a series of questions. Chronicle staff will also take a headshot photo if one has not been provided. Information about candidates will be published in either a late September or early October edition of the Chronicle.
