Quimby earns Master’s Degree from American University

Zach Quimby, a 2016 graduate of New Kent High School, graduated with a Master’s Degree from American University in May. Quimby earned a Master of Arts in Political Communication. His thesis of “Words That Change: How Messaging Revitalized Rental Housing Policy During the COVID-19 Pandemic” was recognized with an Award of Distinction. Quimby is currently working as a manager of public affairs for the National Apartment Association in Washington D.C.

Crump seeks reelection as New Kent County Circuit Court Clerk

Amy Crump has announced her candidacy for re-election to the position of Circuit Court Clerk of New Kent County. “The past eight years have been an exciting and challenging time for New Kent as our community has faced dramatic change and growth,” Crump said in a press release. “The Circuit Court Clerk’s office has endeavored to stay in the forefront in providing professional and courteous service to our citizens. “I would like to ask for your support as we continue to grow and sustain our community,” she concluded.

On June 20, a primary will be held to determine who will represent the Republican Party in the Fall election for Commissioner of Revenue. The two candidates are Laura M. Ecimovic and Terry K. Cornelius. Traditionally, New Kent County has voted Republican and whoever wins this primary is likely to become our next Commissioner of Revenue in the Fall election. So, why is this primary vote so important and what does it mean to the citizens of New Kent? Letter to the Editor: Supports Cornelius for New Kent Commissioner of Revenue

I am writing to give my support for Terry Cornelius, who is running for the office of Commissioner of Revenue for New Kent County. The office has been in the grip of an incumbent machine for 16 years. As a believer in term limits, I say it is time for new leadership. Terry’s opponent has lost touch with the citizens. The office is currently using some of the highest evaluations available to assess tax, resulting in many people keeping their boats and RVs in different counties. Our business tax is enforced ruthlessly on ‘Mom and Pop’ businesses while forgiving mega-companies…

New Kent High School 2019 grad Bonner earns Bachelor’s Degree

Brandon Bonner, a 2019 graduate of New Kent High School, graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Virginia. Bonner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He will begin his career working in that field with the North Carolina Department of Transportation in Raleigh.

Sherese Bonner, a 2017 graduate of New Kent High School, recently graduated with her Master’s Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bonner earned her Master of Public Administration Degree and will work as a program analyst at the U.S. Department of Commerce as a Presidential Management Fellow in Washington D.C.
