Katie Ross posted a grade-point average of 4.6 as valedictorian of New Kent High School. She was a member of the girls’ varsity tennis team, the Student Council Association, and volunteered at Heritage Public Library. Katie will be attending will be attending the Milwaukee School of Engineering where she will be studying architectural engineering and playing on the school’s tennis team. She is the daughter of William and Lisa Ross.
Sophie McLaughlin is salutatorian of New Kent High School’s Class of 2023 with a grade-point average of 4.6. She was a member of the BETA club, the girls’ varsity volleyball team, and volunteered at Dreamcatchers. Sophie will be attending the University of Virginia where she plans to study biology as part of a physical therapy track. She is the daughter of Adam and Christy McLaughlin.

Jenna Warlick, a resident of Providence Forge, was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Alabama during the Fall 2022 semester. In order to be recognized for the accomplishment, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
Erin Warford, a resident of Providence Forge, recently earned their degree from Hollins University during a May 21 commencement ceremony. Warford graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
Two sisters who were part of New Kent High School’s Class of 2022 were recognized by their respective college for academic achievement for the Spring 2023 semester. Lauren Vick, who attends Longwood University, and Lucy Vick, who attends Christopher Newport University, were named to the President’s List at their schools. In order to be recognized for the honors, a student must be enrolled full-time and accumulate a grade-point average of 4.0.
A dozen local residents were recognized on James Madison University’s Dean’s List for the Spring 2023 semester. Isabelle Aczel and Akira Hicks, both of Lanexa, Brianna Bartlett, Jacob Snawder, Allison Sours, Hannah Sweeney, and Trevor West, all of Quinton, Christopher Krawiec and Kyra Reed, both of Providence Forge, and Abigail Matthies, Norah Murray, and Alexa Spain, all of New Kent, received the academic acknowledgements. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must accumulate a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.899 while taking at least 12 graded credit hours.
Three Providence Forge residents were named to the President’s List at James Madison University for the Spring 2023 semester. Rylie Cross, Kaylei Kipper, and Larsen Stewart were all recognized by the school for their academic achievement. In order to be named to the list, a student must be taking at least 12 graded credit hours and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.
