Taryn Bonsky, a resident of New Kent, recently completed her studies at York College of Pennsylvania. Bonsky graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree as part of May 2025 commencement ceremonies.
Four months after the state deadline, the audit of Charles City’s finances was finally completed. The audit reported material “weaknesses in internal controls,” resulting in a “reasonable possibility that a material misstatement of the entity’s financial statements will not be prevented or detected.” The last delay was a $231,341 cash discrepancy, which the auditor never could sort out. Jordan Stewart, New Kent’s Board of Supervisors District 5 representative, has been elected as the new chairwoman for PlanRVA. Formerly known as the Richmond Regional Planning District Commission, PlanRVA encompasses nine localities and acts as a planning agency and provider of essential services to the region. The organization works to convene community representatives and build relationships that strengthen capacity across the region. “I’m looking forward to serving both my community and the region in this new role and am anticipating a great year ahead,” Stewart said in a press release.
J.B. Warlick, a resident of Providence Forge, was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Alabama for the Spring 2025 semester. To be named to the list, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
Three local students were named to the Dean’s List at Bridgewater College for the Spring 2025 semester. McKenna Mueller and Luke Tomajczyk, both of Providence Forge, and Waverly Marshall of New Kent were recognized for their academic achievements. To be named to the list, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.
William Ashley, a resident of Providence Forge, was named to the President’s List at Shenandoah University for the Spring 2025 semester. To be recognized with the accolade, a student must be enrolled full-time and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.
Logan Albertson, a resident of New Kent, recently graduated from Averett University. Albertson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Science. He was also named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2025 semester, which requires a student to earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.

Parker McBrayer of Barhamsville, Emma Shellman of Charles City, Catie Bennett of Providence Forge, and Kendal Vorous of Quinton were acknowledged for their academic achievement. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a quality-point average of 3.6 or higher.
