Abbey and Braden Coutu, graduates of New Kent High School’s Class of 2019, were recognized on the Dean’s List at the College of William and Mary for the Fall 2022 semester. In order to earn the recognition, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.6 or higher while taking at least 12 credit hours.
Several local students were name to the President’s List at Shenandoah University for the Fall 2022 semester. Brylea Ricks of Providence Forge, Colette Girouard of Quinton, and Rachel Owens of Lanexa were all named to the President’s List. To be recognized for the honor, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher while being enrolled as a full-time student.
Ayiana Adkins, a resident of Charles City, recently presented research at Radford University’s Fourth Annual Winter Creative Activities and Research Days. Adkins presented an Art History exhibit entitled “Exploration of African Arts.” The exhibit is part of Radford University’s Office of Undergraduate Research to solve problems faced in society and on the planet. Students presented their research projects through poster projects or oral presentations.
The Benjamin Harrison Bridge that connects Charles City and Prince George County will experience overnight closures beginning Thursday, Jan. 5, for aerial cable work. Closures will take place during the overnight hours beginning Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. The bridge is scheduled to reopen the next morning at 6 a.m. Corresponding dates for the overnight closures are Jan. 5-6, and Jan. 9-12. New Kent Superintendent of Schools Brian Nichols has been named as a 2022 Superintendent to Watch by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).
