Two local Providence Forge residents were named to the Dean’s List at Bridgewater College for the Fall 2022 semester. McKenna Mueller and Luke Tomajczyk were recognized by the school for their academic accolades. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher while enrolled at the college full-time.
Three local residents were named to the President’s List of Southern New Hampshire University for the Fall 2022 semester. William Walters of Lanexa, Carrol Smart of New Kent, and Steven Pennington of Providence Forge were recognized for their academic accolades. In order to be named to the President’s List, a student must be taking at least 12 credits and earn a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher.
Elena Gutierrez, a native of Providence Forge, was initiated into the Virginia Military Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society during a Nov. 22 ceremony. In order to be inducted into the society, a student must be in at least their second year of college, be in the top 35 percent of their class, and demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the five following principles of collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, scholarship, and service to their college or university.
Charles City County’s Circuit Court has been awarded a grant for the preservation of local records. The grant, in the amount of $17,107.50, will be used to digitize Land Book 1867, 1869-1874, Land Book 1921-24, Reassessment of Lands 1900, 1905, 1910, 1915, 1920, and 1925. “We’re very excited,” commented Victoria Cox-Washington, Circuit Court Clerk of Charles City County. “These records are the history of our county! We have an obligation to make sure that they are available for future generations.” The documents and books will be stored in the court’s offices.
Abbey and Braden Coutu, graduates of New Kent High School’s Class of 2019, were recognized on the Dean’s List at the College of William and Mary for the Fall 2022 semester. In order to earn the recognition, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.6 or higher while taking at least 12 credit hours.
Several local students were name to the President’s List at Shenandoah University for the Fall 2022 semester. Brylea Ricks of Providence Forge, Colette Girouard of Quinton, and Rachel Owens of Lanexa were all named to the President’s List. To be recognized for the honor, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher while being enrolled as a full-time student.
Ayiana Adkins, a resident of Charles City, recently presented research at Radford University’s Fourth Annual Winter Creative Activities and Research Days. Adkins presented an Art History exhibit entitled “Exploration of African Arts.” The exhibit is part of Radford University’s Office of Undergraduate Research to solve problems faced in society and on the planet. Students presented their research projects through poster projects or oral presentations.
The Benjamin Harrison Bridge that connects Charles City and Prince George County will experience overnight closures beginning Thursday, Jan. 5, for aerial cable work. Closures will take place during the overnight hours beginning Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. The bridge is scheduled to reopen the next morning at 6 a.m. Corresponding dates for the overnight closures are Jan. 5-6, and Jan. 9-12.
