Walters earns President’s List recognition from Southern New Hampshire University

William Walters, a resident of Lanexa, has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s President’s List for the Summer 2022 semester. In order to be recognized for the accolade, a student must be taking at least 12 credit hours and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher.

Bland named to Dean’s List at Southern New Hampshire University

Heather Bland, a resident of Lanexa, has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s Dean’s List for the Summer 2022 semester. In order to be recognized for the accolade, a student must be taking at least 12 credit hours and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Pulaski to study Russian language abroad in NSLI-Y program

Anna Pulaski, a resident of Quinton, was awarded a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) scholarship and will study the Russian language for nine months in Kyrgzystan. NSLI-Y is a program organized by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs that promotes critical language learning among American Youth. Pulaski was one of 80 students selected from more than a thousand applicants that was selected to participate in the NSKI-Y program. She will also take part in Virginia Tech’s Russian Flagship program in Fall 2023.

Chickahominy Pow-Wow returns after two-year hiatus

After a two-year hiatus, the 70th rendition of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe annual Fall Festival and Pow-Wow is returning to the Charles City County. The Chickahominy Indian Tribe will join Native American friends and visitors from all over the country when they gather for the 70th annual Chickahominy Fall Festival and Pow-Wow on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Chickahominy Tribal Grounds, located at 8200 Lott Cary Road, Providence Forge, VA, in Charles City. A second Dollar General store has opened its doors in Charles City County. Located at 3380 Wayside Road, the new store is one of the newer models by the company that is expected to house grocery items. “We believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic growth for the communities we proudly serve, and the addition of the Charles City store highlights our commitment to deliver a pleasant shopping experience that includes great prices on quality products in a convenient location,” said Matthew Simonsen, senior vice president of real estate and store development for Dollar General.
