New Kent’s Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) has awarded four scholarships to local students who graduated high school in 2022. Treyvon Taylor was the recipient of the NKCDC academic scholarship in the amount of $250. Elizabeth Ross, Jaiden McCoy, and Shemaiah Young were all awarded with the Eugene R. Williams Scholarship based on high academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Ross, who was New Kent High School’s Class of 2022 valedictorian, received a $1,000 award, while McCoy and Young each received $500 monetary contributions.
Last week, AutoZone’s Distribution Center broke ground in New Kent County, opening the possibility of 352 new jobs. Along with Quinton Elementary School’s scheduled opening, the county’s leaders have listened to the people and continues to flourish. They continue to make a statement on what it means to be responsible from the fiscal standpoint, as well as flat out getting things done. Delaney Narron, Charles City County High School’s Class of 2021 salutatorian, made the Honors List at Mary Baldwin University for the Spring 2022 semester. To be recognized for the accolade, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher while enrolled as a full-time student.
Two local residents graduated from Radford University as part of Spring 2022 commencement ceremonies held on May 7. Kirsten Torrence of Quinton earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance. Skylar Hogge of New Kent earned an Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant.
