Britni Kegley, of New Kent, was named to the University of Maryland Global Campus Dean’s List for the 2021 Summer term. To be eligible for the honor, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better and completed at least six credits during the term.
Ryan Jones, of Quinton, was named as one of 34 Distinguished Military Students for the 2021-22 academic year, and was honored during a Sept. 25 banquet. To be selected for the honor, a cadet must be in the upper half of the academic class, the upper third of the ROTC class, and the upper third of the University of North Georgia’s Order of Merit List.
My editorial this week came rather easily this week because I was focused on another area of life when I begin to write about it. As we return to face-to-face interaction, we are dealing with environments when it comes to performing to expectations. More often than not, many of us are stressed out because we are put in situations where we are pressured to do things. But instead of pressure, we need to come to an understanding of encouraging each other instead. Life is currently hard enough with people arguing over several factors instead of working to solve the problems….

New Kent’s Chamber of Commerce “A Taste of New Kent” wine festival returns Saturday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Maidstone Village, located at 7781 Invicta Lane. The event will present a variety of wine tasting from a number of local wineries and cideries in Virginia, as well as several craft and art vendors and food trucks.
